Sound deadening consisted of removing every panel and every seat of the car and treating every area possible. To include carpet and headliner. The goal was to make this vehicle rattle-free and quiet.
The installation was completed by Octave Audio in Orlando, Florida.
Tweeter/Midrange
The midrange was installed the dash firing up towards the windshield. This was done to achieve the best frequency response plus minimize reflections. The mids are in a sealed enclosure. Tweeters are mounted in the A-Pillar .
Midbass
Midbass was installed in a modified factory location which is inside the dash. They are vented through the fender and lined with a hydrophobic mesh to ensure no water can ever get in. The inside was lined with non-hardening modeling clay and CLD.
Amp Rack/Subwoofer
I gave Octave the hard task of keeping the SUV still fully usable but having a killer look and man did he deliver in strides. There is extra attention to detail that ties into the look of the car. There are a total of 4 Arc audio Arc series amps 3 of them being 1000.6 and another being the 1000.2. The two top amps run the front stage. They are bridged and they run the left midbass, midrange, and tweeter on their respective side. The other 1000.6 runs the rear fill and front sub which is an Arc Audio A-10. The sub amp is the bottom right and it powers the AudioMobile Encore 15s. At the bottom you see the brain of the system, the BRAX DSP. Every detail was placed to tie the car and the whole system together. The box and amp rack are secured by four threaded mounting points which have been attached to the vehicle itself.
Wiring
Each wire is routed in such a way that it follows the OEM factory wiring. The 0 gauge power wire is routed through the left side of the vehicle while the speakers 16 gauge speaker wire is routed through the center of the vehicle. The cable for the director is routed through the right side of the vehicle. Zip ties are securing the wiring at least every 6 inches. Furthermore, there are pieces of Hush Mat tape throughout the wiring to eliminate any unwanted noise.
Detail
The black vinyl is automotive grade and it matches the exact pattern of the leather seats in the vehicle and the three lines that go across the subs tie in the lines on the arc audio Amplifiers. To top it off, there are LED lights outlining the amps, DSPm, and subs. It's the same color as the factory interior lights.
Lastly, he created a panel strong enough to be able to throw whatever I wanted in the back while still being acoustically transparent. Now the SUV is still fully functional and has a killer system.
The tuning was done by me. Using a combination of my JL Max and my ears. My goal was to have a system that represents a speakeasy type of vibe. Close and personal with lots of attack and detail. Imaging means everything to me so I wanted to make sure that my image was deep and stable with great focus. I have been able to achieve my goals while still having a fairly stock-looking SUV.
